Suicide is the leading cause of death of Australian males aged 15-44 and the third leading cause of death of males aged 45-64. Knowing that men are typically less likely than women to reach out for support, Murray PHN has launched the His Story. End Silence. End Suicide. campaign in a bid to reduce the rate of men’s suicide. The campaign has been developed with the help of a consumer reference group to increase awareness and to encourage help-seeking behaviours among men.
The problem with silence is that it feeds isolation, stigma and shame. Every man has a story. This campaign and its messaging is built on hope and the knowledge that through open conversation and connection, no man’s story should ever be lost to silence. By breaking the silence, we can all help to keep these stories going.
Help us to spread the word by visiting and sharing the campaign website https://hisstory.com.au/ posts from our social media pages Facebook / LinkedIn or accessing further information and resources below.
His Story resources
Murray PHN has prepared a communications pack, so that local councils, community groups, sporting clubs, healthcare providers, community organisations and others can share and amplify this important campaign and its messaging.
Four posters have been created featuring three of the men in the social media and video materials. The fourth is a woman with the headline, “What if your voice kept his story going?”.
All posters have a QR code that links to the https://hisstory.com.au/ webpage and lists key support services that people can call to get help.
Suicide doesn’t discriminate. 2500 men died by suicide in Australia last year. They are not numbers, they’re people. Don’t let silence define his story. Start a conversation today.
Men are dying in silence. Brothers. Friends. Sons. Fathers. One conversation could change everything. Don’t let silence define his story. Reach in. It’s time to talk.
Your story matters. To us, to you, to everyone. There’s hope in conversation. Don’t let silence define your story. Reach out. We’re listening.

Murray PHN acknowledges its catchment crosses over many unceded First Nations Countries, following the Dhelkunya Yaluk (Healing River).
We pay our respects and give thanks to the Ancestors, Elders and Young people for their nurturing, protection and caregiving of these sacred lands and waterways, acknowledging their continuing cultural, spiritual and educational practices.
We are grateful for the sharing of Country and the renewal that Country gives us. We acknowledge and express our sorrow that this sharing has come at a personal, spiritual and cultural cost to the wellbeing of First Nations peoples. We commit to addressing the injustices of colonisation across our catchment, and to listening to the wisdom of First Nations communities who hold the knowledge to enable healing. We extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
