Community members are invited to participate in free suicide prevention training, designed to provide everyday people with simple steps to help save a life from suicide.
Murray PHN is providing free access to Question. Persuade. Refer. (QPR) training, available to anyone 18 years or over. It takes only 60 minutes and can be completed in multiple sittings.
What is QPR training?
QPR is an online evidence-based training program that provides the knowledge and teaches the skills to help recognise warning signs of suicide, builds confidence to talk with a person about suicidal thoughts, and shows then how to connect the person with available supports. QPR is an emergency response, similar to CPR, and is the first step to support someone in a crisis. People who are suicidal often communicate distress through their words or actions, and new ways of thinking about suicide prevention suggest that training a large number of people in a community to respond to these signs can build a local safety net. The training is perfect for anyone who regularly interacts with a range of people, such as hairdressers, baristas, healthcare workers, sporting or recreation club personnel and volunteers. Registration also provides access to a range of suicide prevention resources.
