People accessing alcohol and other drug (AOD) services often face higher risks of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs). Nurses and midwives play a vital role in reducing these risks by integrating sexual health into everyday care.

The Australasia Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine and Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia are presenting this two-part webinar series to provide practical insights, real-world examples and peer perspectives to help enhance STI and BBV testing, treatment and engagement in AOD settings. Learn about emerging issues, explore case studies and innovative nursing models of care.

Dates (participants are welcome to attend either or both sessions):

  • Part 1: Thursday 14 May 2026
  • Part 2: Thursday 18 June 2026

Learning outcomes:
On completion of Part 1 and its components, participants will be able to:

  • describe the clinical presentation of common STIs and BBVs
  • identify the priority populations for STI and BBV screening
  • explain the importance of testing and screening for STIs and BBV
  • recall tools, resources and available clinical support.

On completion of Part 2 and its components, participants will be able to:

  • identify ways to improve STI and BBV awareness in your setting.
