April 29 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Hosted by Murray PHN in collaboration with Kidney Health Australia
General practitioners play an essential role in initiating treatment to slow the progression of CKD and reducing cardiovascular risk. Initiating treatment early, ensures pharmacotherapies can be commenced before the disease has progressed too far and gives patients the best chance of better outcomes.
This webinar will deep dive into chapter 2 Managing CKD of the 5th edition Chronic Kidney Disease Management in Primary Care handbook and key management strategies that will introduce a PRESCRIBE, REDUCE or AVOID classification system for medications in people with CKD. A ‘sick day management plan’ to avoid acute kidney injury and further damage to the kidneys, will be outlined, including which medications should be temporarily stopped when an individual with CKD is sick or dehydrated.
Learning outcomes:
1. Outline the key management strategies for all people with CKD.
2. Identify best practice pharmacological therapies for an individual with CKD in the primary care setting.
3. Describe a plan to prevent acute kidney injury in individuals with CKD who are sick or dehydrated.
