Reducing stigma and supporting priority populations in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program | Online

Hosted by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and Lung Foundation Australia
The National Lung Cancer Screening Program, launched in July 2025, is a major national initiative designed to detect lung cancer earlier and improve outcomes for people at higher risk. As the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, improving participation in screening is critical to reducing lung cancer mortality.
Some communities may experience barriers to accessing screening due to stigma, cultural considerations, geographic location, disability, and other social factors. Priority populations include:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
LGBTQ+ communities
People experiencing mental health challenges
Rural and remote communities
Multicultural communities
People living with disability.
This webinar will explore how healthcare professionals can support equitable access to screening by creating safe, inclusive and supportive practice environments. Expert speakers will share insights on supporting priority populations who may face additional barriers to participation in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify priority populations who may face barriers in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
- Implement strategies to create safe, inclusive, and supportive practice environments that encourage participation in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
