Syphilis in pregnancy results in very high rates of fetal morbidity and mortality and should be treated as soon as practical after diagnosis, often in the general practice setting. Both Mycoplasma Genitalium (MG) and Gonorrhoea are relatively common in Australia. Both STIs have developed anti-microbial resistance in recent years, rendering them increasingly difficult to treat.
