GP education event: Kidney stones – assessment, diagnosis and surgical and non-surgical treatment options | Online

FreeUrologist Dr Deanne Soares will provide an overview of the current evidence-based recommendations for the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients who present with kidney stones in the primary care setting. Deanne will outline what imaging is most suitable for kidney stones and will discuss conservative and surgical treatments and when one is recommended over the other. Case studies will be used for context.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the major risk factors for common types of kidney stones.
2. Outline the red flags when a patient presents with kidney stones that warrant urgent referral to a urologist or emergency attendance.
3. Provide patients with stone prevention advice and strategies.
